When I Was In School

I learned lots of things at school. Some useful, some not so much. But there's some things I wished I'd learned much sooner, and that I wish some people would try to learn now. So here I am ranting about them.

Lyrics and Chords:

[C][G][C]
[C]

When [C]I was four years old I [G]began my [C]education
To [F]learn about society and [C]all its expec[G]tations
[F]Learn to read and [C]write, to [E7]add and multi[Am]ply,
[F]Eat my greens and [C]not to answer [G]back and not to [C]cry

[G]

I [C]learned how to spell, and [G]how to long [C]divide
[F]How to run around a field [C]far too many [G]times
[F]How to pay at[C]tention and [E7]how to follow [Am]rules
[F]That's what they [C]taught me [G]when I was in [C]school

[G]

I [C]learned these things for my exams,
and [F]so of course I passed,
But [Am]there's so many things
That I [G]wish I'd learned in [G7]class

Like [C]How to put up shelves without [G]nailing through a [C]cable
[F]How to read instructions to set [C]up a flatpack [G]table
[C]How to deal with bullies when they're [G]frightening and [Am]cruel
[F]No-one told me [C]these things [G]when I was in [C]school

[F][C][G][C]

[C]Willy, Willy, Harry, Ste, [G]Harry, Dick, John, [C]Harry Three
[F]I learned the kings of England and a[C]bout the Bayeux [G]Tapestry
I [F]learned that Jean-Paul [C]Marat [E7]died in his [Am]bath,
I [F]learned that zinc and [C]copper are the [G]metals that make [C]brass.

[G]

I [C]learned these things for my exams,
and [F]so of course I passed,
But [Am]there's so many things
That I [G]wish I'd learned in [G7]class

Like [C]How to put up shelves without [G]nailing through a [C]cable
[F]How to read instructions to set [C]up a flatpack [G]table
[C]How to deal with bullies when they're [G]frightening and [Am]cruel
[F]No-one told me [C]these things [G]when I was in [C]school

[C][G][C]
[F][C][G]
[F][C][E7][Am]
[F][C][G][C]

And be[C]fore your school days are through
Please [Am]learn a life skill or [G]two[G7]

Like [C]never block the doorway after [G]entering a [C]shop,
[F]No-one wants to hear the gory [C]details of your [G]op,
[C]Just because it's on the 'net it [G]doesn't make it [Am]knowledge,
You [F]need to under[C]stand that when [G]you get out of [C]college

[G]

If a [C]politician said it then it's [G]probably not [C]true
Re[F]member that everything is [C]not all about [G]you
Still [C]no-one gets to tell you how you [G]have to live your [Am]life
[F]It's up to [C]you if you want [G]children and a [C]wife

[G]

[C]No-one's ever argued on the [G]internet and [C]won
Re[F]member that your hobbies are [C]just a bit of [G]fun
Sing as [C]loud as you like, use your [G]two left feet and [Am]dance,
[F]Every human [C]being de[G]serves an equal [C]chance

Sing as [C]loud as like, use your [G]two left feet and [Am]dance
[F]Every human [C]being de[G]serves an equal [C]chance
[C]Shout it from the rooftops, [G]break all the [Am]rules,
[F]No-one told me [C]these things [G]when I was in [C]school
[F]No-one told me [C]these things [G]when I was in [C]school
